Coaching Greats Announce First National Football Walk-On Award

Burlsworth Trophy to Honor Achievements of Walk-ons

WHO: Danny Ford, Brandon Burlsworth’s first coach at the University of Arkansas; Frank Broyles, former Arkansas football coach and athletic director; Ken Hatfield, former Arkansas football coach; and Jim Lindsey, former Arkansas Razorback football standout and board member of the Burlsworth Foundation will be available for interviews and photos.

WHAT: In honor of Brandon Burlsworth, former Arkansas offensive lineman and walk-on, football coaching greats will announce the first ever national football walk-on award – the Burlsworth Trophy. The award will be given to the collegiate player who began his career as a walk-on.

WHEN: Monday, Aug. 23 2010 2 p.m.

WHERE: “A” Club at Donald Reynolds Razorback Stadium / Gate 15 Fayetteville, Ark.

WHY: Brandon Burlsworth walked on to the Arkansas Razorback football team in 1994, worked his way to being a three year starter and was named an All-American in 1998 Burlsworth was drafted with the 63rd overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft, but was tragically killed in a car accident 11 days later. The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, in particular those children who have limited opportunities.
